Media-Analyse 2016: Styria media remain steady at the top

The figures from Media-Analyse (MA) for 2016 confirm once again top scores for Styria’s “Kleine Zeitung”, “Die Presse”, “Sportmagazin” along with the weekly papers of Regionalmedien Austria (RMA).

Across Austria, 853,000 readers (18,000 of them new readers) have conferred a stable national reach of 11.6 percent on the Kleine Zeitung. At weekends the “Kleine” reaches a respectable 884,000 readers across Austria, making it the clear number one among federal provincial newspapers. Even better of course are the MA results for the Kleine Zeitung in the province of Styria (51.6 percent reach) and the province of Carinthia (with 253,000 readers), where it is successfully and convincingly defending its top position against the competition. Particularly good news: 140,000 readers, who regularly reach for the Kleine Zeitung in Austria, are between 14 and 29 years old whilst 50,000 are between 14 and 19 years old. Among affluent, well-educated readers in the south of Austria, the Kleine Zeitung can point to a reach of 69.5 percent.

The MA results for “Die Presse” are similarly stable: reports from the editorial team of the year are read by 296,000 people every day, corresponding with a reach of 4 percent in Austria. This quality paper is popular above all among university graduates and top-earners. Alongside the “Presse”, the “Presse am Sonntag” can also point to a stable result: with 342,000 readers every Sunday, it achieves a reach of 4.6 percent – it’s particularly popular in Vienna, Lower Austria and Styria. Among university graduates and top-earners, the national reach figures total 12 and 10.8 percent respectively.

Sportmagazin has actually made strong gains in MA 2016 – from the preceding 3.1 up to 3.4 percent. According to analysis, the magazine reaches particularly young readers (aged between 14 and 29) as well as the male target group and urban areas, above all Vienna. Only launched in 2017, the distribution cooperation with the “Presse am Sonntag” (subscription) will push Sportmagazin further up, according to forecasts.

Impressive success too for Regionalmedien Austria (RMA): with 3,664 million readers they have once again secured their top position among national print media. This corresponds with a print reach of 49.8 percent.

As a result, Styria Media Group confirms it position as the player in the field of national media.
