Markus Mair - Biography

Markus Mair, born 1964, studied law at the University of Graz. After that he gained professional experience, including serving as a parliamentary assistant with a focus on public relations in the fields of foreign affairs, social and agricultural policies, as well as through comprehensive training as a bank official at Raiffeisen-Landesbank Styria AG. From 1996 until 2003 he was head of the management secretariat, responsible for project management and media assistance. This was followed by appointment to head of Euro project, promotion to director in 2002 and, one year later, to management board director for sales, marketing, bonds, building saving and insurance, organisational consulting as well as training. In 2006 Markus Mair was appointed general manager of Raiffeisen-Landesbank bank.

In addition to numerous management, executive and supervisory board functions in various different companies, Mair has been associated with Styria Media Group AG since 2009 as a member of the supervisory board. As executive chairman since October 1st 2013 he forms, together with board members Kurt Kribitz and Bernhard Kiener, the SMG-group top management. At the end of June 2018, Markus Mair was elected President of the Association of Austrian Newspapers (VÖZ). In June 2020, he was confirmed in that position.
