Kleine Zeitung: Restructuring of Executive Board

Qualified in business administration, Mag. Thomas Spann comes from a south-east-Styrian family of entrepreneurs and, prior to his role as Director of the Styrian Economic Chamber, he worked for WIFI Steiermark, Messe Graz and the Steirischer Wirtschaftsbund among others. He is married and the father of one daughter. Thomas Spann will assume his new role in April.

Dr. Walter Walzl, following service at Raiffeisen Leasing Wien and the Creditanstalt, has served as Managing Director of the Kleine Zeitung from 2001 till early 2012 and, most recently, as Managing Director of the Südost-Treuhand business consultancy in Klagenfurt. He is married and the father of two sons. Walter Walzl will assume his new role in February.

As hitherto, the Kleine Zeitung management team will feature Gerhard Valeskini and Walter Hauser, who, over recent years and under the leadership of Hubert Patterer and Dietmar Zikulnig, made significant contributions to achieving the impressive market success of the Kleine Zeitung in circulation growth and advertising activities.

Over the next two years, the redeployment of printed and digital content, consolidation of editorial staff and relocation to the new multimedia newsroom will be central to Editor in Chief Hubert Patterer's overall responsibility for publication.

Styria Executive Chairman Markus Mair: "We stand before one of the most decisive phases in the commercial history of the Kleine Zeitung. Under the spotlight are not only the product offensive in print and digital but also accessing new areas of business."
"This restructuring of the Executive Board will enable yet more focus on the products and daily service provision of Austria's leading provincial newspaper, whilst also capturing a fresh commercial tailwind for new business generation", added director with responsibility for the Kleine Zeitung, Klaus Schweighofer.
