"Die Presse" honoured female entrepreneurs of the year

For the fifth time, "Die Presse" honoured female entrepreneurs of the year in four categories: In luxurious The Ritz-Carlton Vienna, top-class guests from politics and business celebrated their outstanding achievements with the prizewinners.

Together with WKO - Frau in der Wirtschaft, "Die Presse" selected the winners of the Entrepreneurial Women Award 2019. Around 200 guests attended the exclusive event and celebrated the success of female entrepreneurs in Austria.

From 2 November to 21 December 2018 more than 150 women entrepreneurs applied for the popular award. In a jury meeting, all applications were examined and four exceptional winners were selected to receive the coveted trophy. This year the award was created by the photo artist Anastasia Khoroshilova. It shows a woman who can be seen from behind and looks confidently into the landscape and her future.

"Producing high quality, interesting and relevant news is our daily business, which includes recognizing and appreciating the achievements of others. It is a great honour to honour the women of the economy who do outstanding work and drive the entrepreneurial spirit of Austria with our award", says Rainer Nowak, editor-in-chief, publisher and managing director of the "Presse" about the award and its significance.

The winners of the evening
The first award of the evening went to Cornelia Diesenreiter from Unverschwendet in the Start-up category. The Viennese company has set itself the task of turning surplus fruit and vegetables into delicacies and has thus created a culinary solution against food waste.

Lisa Smith was awarded in the Innovation category for Prewave. A technology for automated recognition and prediction of risks based on social media data and local news networks.

Nicole Lurger received the Entrepreneurs Award in the Export category for FML logistics e.U. In a strongly male-dominated industry, she managed to achieve a turnover of one million within one year and to exceed her business plan.

Johanna Maier won in the category Special entrepreneurial achievements with Johanna Maier GmbH/Hotel Hubertus Maier OG. In 2001 she was honoured by Gault Millau as the only 4-cap chef in the world, and has developed the family business of her parents-in-law into a gourmet restaurant and gourmet hotel. In 2005 she founded the Johanna Maier manufactory for SPAR Premium products, which is still successfully represented in the SPAR range today.

Christine Dornaus, Managing Director Wiener Städtische, Martha Schultz, Vice President Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Rainer Nowak, Editor-in-Chief, Publisher and Managing Director of "Presse" and Margarete Schramböck, Federal Minister for Digitisation and Business Location, handed over the exclusive trophy to the lucky winners.

Together with the women of the evening Prof. Ernst Hilger, member of the National Council Carmen Jeitler-Cincelli, the jury members Regina Mittermayer-Knopf and Inge Prader, as well as award initiator Eva Komarek from Styria Media Group celebrated the award.

The prizes were donated by Galerie Ernst Hilger. Other sponsors of the event are Wiener Städtische Versicherung and The Ritz-Carlton Vienna.
