Hans Dichand
From the “Murtaler Zeitung” to the “Krone”

Born in 1921 in Graz and after taking external A-Levels, serving his military service and time in captivity, Hans Dichand began his unique career in Austria in the media branch as an editor in the British news service in Graz.

In 1946 Dichand became Chief Editor at the “Murtaler Zeitung” in Judenburg, a year later he was a Foreign Affair editor at the ÖVP daily newspaper “Steirerblatt” in Graz. Between 1948 and 1954 he was Chief Editor at the “Kleinen Zeitung”.

Hans Dichand left Styria in 1954 and moved to Vienna as Chief Editor at the “Kurier”. For almost half a century, since April 1959 is Dichand the prominent man at the “Kronen Zeitung” which still exemplifies by far the most circulated daily newspaper in Austria.

Alongside his activities at the “Krone” and its associated interests Dichand has also published books such as “Kronen Zeitung. Die Geschichte eines Erfolgs” (The Story of Success), “Begegnung mit Paris” (Encounter with Paris), “Die Künstler der klassischen Moderne in Österreich” (The Artists of the Classic Modern Age in Austria) as well as his memoirs “Im Vorhof der Macht” (In the Forecourt of Power).
