Radical change in the slovenian daily newspaper market
The recently published official Slovenian coverage study NRB shows a massive upheaval in the Slovenian newspaper scene. Considerable gains for Žurnal24. Delo, Dnevnik and Vecer loose massively.
Žurnal24, the Slovenian daily newspaper of Styria Media International AG, in comparison to last year adds +20% of coverage and now has 242.000 readers per issue. At the same time the well-established daily newspapers have to accept extreme losses: Delo now has only 138.000 readers (-17% compared to last year), Dnevnik stays at 125.000 readers (-18%) and Večer at 122.000 readers (-20%). The country’s major daily newspaper remains the tabloid Slovenske Novice, which with 342.000 readers slightly looses -3% of coverage.
For the first time in decades there is a new number 1 among Slovenia’s weekly papers. Nedeljski dnevnik looses -18% compared to last year and now stays at 340.000 readers. The former front-runner is being displaced by Styria’s weekly paper žurnal, which puts itself at the top of the weekly paper segment with now 357.000 readers.
